PM thanks Maoists, other details

Kathmandu, 8 May: Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal Sunday in s statement thanked Maoists for calling off an indefinite strike Saturday six days after launch saying the move was ‘ positive’ and had created an atmosphere for dialogue and cooperation.
Nepal said government will effort an agreement.
He thanked the people for their patience during the prolonged strike.
Maoists are converging at the Open Air Theatre from different points in the Valley to attend a public meeting being addressed by Chairman and other Maoist central leaders to explain their retreat with which the ruling parties are happy.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sujata Koirala Saturday told Asian diplomats there’ll be no change in government until former Maoist combatants and resettled and integrated.
Asian diplomats became active following collective meetings of western diplomats with government and party leaders.
Movement of vehicles was light on the capital’s streets.
Operation of industries and schools will be normalized Sunday.
Prices of vegetables fell dramatically Saturday.

Deployment of Gurkhas in Singapore, Brunei challenged; verdict Sunday

Kathmandu, 8 May: Supreme court will give its verdict on the deployment of Gurkhas recruited in the British army in Singapore and Brunei instead Sunday, Annapurna Post reports.
Discussions on a writ were completed Friday before a bench of justices
Balaram KC and Prem Sharma.
The writ says without agreement 2,500 Gurkhas have been deployed in Brunei with the Gurkha Reserve Unit and 2,000 Gurkhas have been deployed in Singapore with the Gurkha Contingent.

Fire in Bhutanese refugee camp

Kathmandu, 8 May: Thirty huts were destroyed Friday when a fire broke out at the Belgangi-1 Bhutanese refugee camp at six in the evening Friday, RSS reports from Bhadrapur.
The fire started from the hut of Chandimaya BK.
Fire broke out at the camp last year also.
