Maoists say Nepal’s resignation positive; more details of premier’s resignation

By Bhola B Rana

Kathmandu, 30 June: Maoist Vice-chairman Baburam Bhattarai said Wednesday’s resignation of Prime Minnister Madhav Kumar Nepal was a positive step.
“It was late but a positive step,” Bhattarai said.
“This has opened the way for a national unity government. We’ll make an effort as the largest party,” he added.
The candidate for prime minister from the main opposition called for ‘system of consensus’ as majority system failed to deliver a constitution even in two years.
Spokesman Dina Nath Sharma said a ‘new chapter’ had begun.
Earlier, Nepal said he was clearing the way for consensus to conclude the peace process and draft a constitution.
The premier said he faced ‘undignified’ behaviour from Maoists since he assumed office and faced opposition on the street, parliament and even ghaeroes.
Nepal announced his intention at a standing committee meeting of his UMP party; the meeting was immediately put off. (more)
