Kathmandu, 29 June: National Paddy Day was celebrated Tuesday coinciding with Ashad 15 by eating beaten rice with curd and planting paddy, the country’s staple food.

Rice production this year fell to 4 million tons from 4.5 million tons the previous year—a 11 percent fall.
Production declined mainly because of bad monsoon and non-availability of fertilizers especially during the planting season.
Paddy has been planted this year only in 14 percent farmland so far with inadequate monsoon, Gorkhapatra reports.
