PM Nepal, Indian ambassador Sood hold discussions

Kathmandu, 11 June: Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal held discussions with Indian Ambassador Rakesh Sood Friday morning.
They also discussed the slaughter of Nepali-speaking people in the northeast state of Meghalaya, Radio Nepal said.
The meeting comes at a time when a political deadlock continues.
No new date for the budget session of parliament that was scheduled to begin 8 June has been set.
US has urged India to help ‘ease tensions’ in Nepal.

Maoist standing committee meets Friday

Kathmandu, 11 June: Maoist standing committee began a crucial party meet to determine the party’s position on integration and resettlement of 19,000 combatants and the derailed peace process.
The main opposition will also discuss a NC and UML consensus document for a proposed national unity government, including Maoists.
Maoist commander Barsha Man Pun Ananta said recently the party will push forming a new government security formation for 19,000 plus combatants.
Ruling parties have suggested integrating 3,000 to 7,000 combatants in three security agencies.
The standing committee is meeting after a meeting of office bearers Thursday agreed that Chairman Prachanda will lead such a government should Maoists lead it.
The party reiterated the position following suggestions somebody other than the chairman could lead a government headed by the main opposition.
Meanwhile, there’s still no breakthrough in the prolonged deadlock to from a national government as Maoists continue to demand the immediate resignation of Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal while ruling parties demand immediate implementation of points 1 a d 3 of a three-point agreement.
Only point 2 of the 28 May agreement —the extension of the constituent assembly (CA) by one year until 28 May 2011 has been implemented by the three parties.

Govt. official killed in Janakpur

Kathmandu, 11 June: Brishnarayan Bhandari, an employee of the Dhanusha district development committee, was shot dead in Janakpur overnight,
He died immediately of chest wounds.
