President prorogues parliament’s winter session; other details (DETAILS OF DEVELOPING STORY)

Kathmandu, 3 June: President Dr Ram Baran Yadav Thursday prorogued the winter session of parliament.
The presidential notification was read out by Chairman Subash Nemwang as the main opposition Maoists boycotted legislative session.
Maoist standing committee meeting Thursday concluded two ruling parties had wrongly interpreted the Friday here-point agreement extending the CA tenure by one year until 28May 2011.
NC and UML asked Maoists for a written schedule to complete the peace process draft a constitution and complete the integration and resettlement of 19,000 plus Maoist combatants.
The integration should have been completed in six months has dragged on or three years.
A constitution to institutionalize should have been completed in two years by 28 May.
Although the elected mandate ended last Friday, three parties agreed to extend the assembly tenure by another one year buying time to draft a constitution.
The parties’ interests have hovered around retaining and grabbing power.

Govt. backs Maj Gen Bhusan Chand

Kathmandu, 3 June: Government Wednesday decided to support the candidature of Maj Gen Bhusan Chand for force commander of UN Mission for a referendum in West Sahara, an army source said.
Maj Gen Ram Bahadur Gurung is the alternative for the position.
Maj Gen Pawan Jung Thapa heads the UN force in Sudan.

APF to takeover Lumbini security from July

Kathmandu, 3 June: A contingent of 125 Armed Police Force (AFP) personnel will takeover security duties at Lumbini from July.
The contingent will take over from Nepal Police and AFP are on 24-hour rotation duty for the protection of the Maya Debi temple at the birthplace of The Buddha.
Complete security duty is being handed over to AFP after theft of millions of rupees this month.
