Maoists approve modality to complete peace process, constitution drafting’ other details

Kathmandu, 10 July: Maoist office bearers Saturday approved a modality for completing the peace process and drafting the delayed constitution on demands of ruling parties to whom it will be presented for discussion and approval in the next several hours, the party said.
Chairman Prachanda gave final touches to it after preparation on in the first day’s meet Friday.
The modality covers on integration and resettlement of 19,000 combatants, disbandment of YCL, return of seized assets, persons missing during the 10-year insurgency and infrastructure destruction during the people’s war.
Ruling parties have insisted they can’t accept a Maoist-led national unity government until the main opposition dismantles its rebel force.
Only three days remain to meet a presidential to meet an extended deadline to assembly a national unity government,
Such a government is unlikely with continuing fundamental differences between major parties.
Nepal is facing a prolonged crisis with only a caretaker government of Madhav Kumar Nepal in Singha Durbar.
‘We’ll present our modality. This is not final. It’s subject to negotiations,” said Spokesman Dinanath Sharma.

Last rites of slain UML leader in the capital

Kathmandu, 10 July: The last rites of slain Okhaldudngha leader Chabilal Karki will be conducted in the capital later Saturday, the party said.
The party leading the government charged Maoists for the murder Thursday night.
A party standing committee is discussing the murder before the funeral along with other issues.

Journalist Gokul Prasad Pokhrel honoured

Kathmandu, 10 July: Gokul Prasad Pokhrel has been conferred the Rashtriya Patrakarita Puraskah 2066 by the government which instituted the award for the first time this year.
The award carries a Rs 200,000 purse.
Pokhrel held top editorial positions in the Rashtriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), Gorkhapatra and the Rising Nepal.
