Maoists consult small parties; other details (DEVELOPING STORY)
By Bhola B Rana
Kathmandu, 2 July: Maoists Friday held consultations with 10 small parties in parliament as hopes fade for a national consensus government under UCPN (Maoist).
Chairman Prachanda and Vice-chairmen Baburam Bhattarai and Kiran Vaidya, members of a Maoist negotiating team, held the dialogue.
Hopes of a national consensus government faded as ruling parties NC and UML dismissed chances of a Maoist-led government without implementing past accords.
Both parties also staked claims to lead a successor government of Madhav Kumar Nepal.
NC Vice-chairman Ram Chandra Paudel Friday accused Maoists for renegading of a peace agreement.
‘”They say point one of the three-point is just a preamble. The first point says past agreements must be implemented. Maoists are pushing back the peace agreement,” Pauel, a NC candidate for prime minister said.
Only the second point of the 28 May tripartite has been implemented—the extension of the constituent assembly by one year until 28 May 2011.
Maoists want implementation of points two and three of the tripartite agreement, including the immediate resignation of Nepal.
Ruling parties insist all three points of the accord should be implemented simultaneously.
