Parliament, as expected, approved special budget

Kathmandu, 12 July: Parliament Monday approved a Rs 110.2 billion special budget that empowers the caretaker government of Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal to draw funds to run the administration for the next four months without raising new taxes.
No new proposals could be initiated to tackle the crippling economic situation because of the prolonged impasse.
The stopgap arrangement to runthe administration was presented before parliament by Finance Minister Surendra Pandey.
“The economy has been sidelined, All economic indicators are negative. “Power politics has been prioritized,” industrialist Binod Chaudhary said adding, “There are clear indications the country is moving towards majority government.:

Three parties fail to agree on consensus government (BREAKING NEWS)

Kathmandu, 12 July: As expected, UCPN (Maoist), NC and UML couldn’t agree Monday on a consensus government before a presidential deadline ended in the evening.
President Dr Ram Baran Yadav is now expected to ask 25 parties in parliament to assemble a majority government as envisaged in article 38(2) of the interim constitution.
Before the meeting tripartite began, Chairman Prachanda said his party will make ‘ a final and complete effort for consensus’.
“After my resignation, there’s been no improvement in the situation,” Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal said.
Speaking for the first time in parliament after his resignation, Nepal said Monday Maoists renegaded on promises following a 28 May tripartite agreement that extended the tenure of the constituent assembly by one year until 28 September 2011.

Driver killed in Kavre

Kathmandu, 12 July: Driver Surya Napit was murdered in Kavre Monday.
A suspect has been arrested though motive for the murder wasn’t known.
