NC rejects UML request to withdraw Paudel’s candidature for PM
Kathmnadu, 14 Aug.: NC Saturday rejected a UML proposal to withdraw the candidature of Vice-president Ram Chandra Paudel for election of prime minister in a runoff vote Monday 18 August.
The rejection came at a meeting of the two parties at the residence of NC Acting President Sushil Koirala at his residence following a UML meeting with 10 pother parties.
NC rejected an invitation for a joint a collective meeting of 22 amongst 25 parties in parliament, expect Maoists.
NC Spokesman Arjun Narsigh KC said his party was already in the race for to succeed Caretaker Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal who continues in office even seven weeks after his resignation.
“UML has already decided. If others are waiting it has no meaning,” UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal said after a meeting of 11 parties.
The UML asked Maoists to prepare an official proposal for a national government to complete the peace process and draft a constitution.
UML has abstained in voting in run three runoff elections.
Another round of elections will again be indecisive of UML abstains.
A faction in the UML opposed to Khanal and siding with NC led by KP Sharma Oli is demanding the party support Paudel amid charges from Khanal a section in the party is attempting to split the third largest party in the legislature.
