MAOIST, GOVT. TALKS ON UNMIN FUTURE (DEVELOPING STORY)
Kathmandu, 10 Sept. Government and main opposition Maoists, with different perceptions on extension on UNMIN tenure after expiry 15 September, held ‘positive talks’ Friday at the office of Maoists in parliament.
Maoist Vice-chairman Narayan Kazi Shrestha said talks were positive.
A final decision could be taken at a meeting between Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal and Chairman Prachanda Saturday, Shrestha said.
Government and Maoists discussed the mandate extension for ‘the last time’. talks sources said.
Home Minister Bhim Rawal represented government at the talks.
UN is hesitating to get out of Nepal insisting it will talk about its future with a ‘duly formed’ government even as it requested the caretaker government to extend its mandate.
UN has come under heavy criticism for interfering in Nepal’s political affairs.
The world body, with support of western powers, won’t quit Nepal.
Ambassadors of Russia and China weren’t present Thursday when envoys of
USA, UK and France—three permanent members of the security council, lobbied for the UN with government and Maoists on behalf of UNMIN.

BHIM RAWAL TO LEAD UN DELEGATION
Kathmandu, 10 Sept. Home Minister Bhim Rawal will lead the Nepali delegation to the forthcoming UN general assembly beginning the third week of September in New York, an announcement said.
Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal cancelled scheduled plan to lead the delegation.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sujata Koirala, contesting for general secretary of NC at a general convention from 17 to 21 October isn’t attending the assembly session.

SUJATA KOIRALA CONTESTING AS INDEPENDENT
Kathmandu, 10 Sept,: Sujata Koirala, daughter of Girija Prasad Koirala, said Friday she’s contesting for the general secretary as an ‘independent’.
She accused her uncle, Acting President Sushil Koirala, Sher Bahadur Deuba and others for forming panels to capture party power.
Sujata refused a proposal from her uncle to withdraw her candidacy Thursday.
The daughter of Girija, has refused to join the Sushil camp, after Girija’s death.
Sujata and four others are elections for the powerful party post.

NO MAOIST CENTRAL COMMITTEE MEET
Kathmandu, 10 Sept.: Maoist central committee didn’t meet Friday amid differences.
Vice-chairmen Baburam Bhattarai and Mohan Baidya Kiran asked Chairman Prachanda to withdraw his candidacy for prime minister for a new approach to break stalemate in election for the successor of Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, party sources said.
Prachanda rejcected the suggestions saying he was still hopeful Madesh parties would support his candidacy in the next round of vote 26 September.
The committee hasn’t met for one week and is expected to meet Saturday.
