GOVT. SEEKS FORMAL EXPLANATION FROM UNMIN

Kathmandu, 25 Oct.: Peace Minister Monday through a letter to UNMIN Chief Karin Landgren Monday asked the political arms of the UN in Nepal sought details of a controversial China visit by a delegation of PLA officials and commanders.
The commanders are based in 28 cantonments and satellite camps under UNMIN watch.
The government asked UNMIN the purpose of the visit and under whose permission the party military delegation visited the friendly northern neighbour which has good relations with the Nepal government.
Ministers and government officials haven’t criticized China for hosting the PLA—probably for fear of ruffling bilateral ties.
The military delegation returned home one day before Chairman Prachanda departed last week for a China visit.

PRESIDENT FLIES FOR CHINA TUESDAY MORNING

Kathmandu, 25 Oct.: President Dr. Ram Barn Yadav files for China Tuesday morning to attend closing ceremony of the Shanghai Expo six months after it began.
The visit will be his second foreign tour after first visiting India following his installation as the country’s first president.
Vice-president Parmananda Jha, who recently returned from China, paid a courtesy call on the president Monday evening.

NEW DENGUE CASES SURFACE IN CHITWAN

Kathmandu, 25 Oct.: Eight students and an official of a school at Narayanghat tested positive for dengue in Chitwan where schools have been closed down from Monday for a week as a preventive measure.
Health officials have been attempting to contain the disease as new cases were reported Monday.
An epidemic has also broken out in Butwal and adjoining areas where specialists have been sent from the capital to fight the disease caused by mosquito bite.
Three have died nation-wide while 350 have fallen sick, health officials in th capital said.

ONE OF TWO NAC BOEINGS GROUNDED

Kathmandu, 25 Oct.: One of only two Boeings conducting international flights for Nepal Airlines Corporation 9NAC) was grounded Monday because of engine trouble, the airline said.
International flights will cancelled because of the grounding at the peak of the autumn peak tourist season.
Hotel industry is enjoying and more international carriers are flying into the country but the country’s flag-carrier hasn’t reaped benefit from the increased tourist arrivals.
NAC, without success, has been attempting to acquire more aircraft to reap benefits.

MEETING OF SUB-COMMITTEE UNDER PRACHANDA-LED TASK FORCE INCONCLUSIVE


Kathmandu, 25 Oct.: A 27-member sub-committee to assist a Prachanda-led task force to expedite the delayed constitution drafting process was inconclusive Monday and will met again Tuesday.
The sub-committee met Monday after 27 political parties Sunday extended the tenure of the task force by another 11 days to recommend suggestions to Chairman Subash Nemwang.
The sub-committee discussed fundamental and property rights bewsides social justice Monday.

13TH ROOUND VOTING FOR PM TUESDAY

Kathmandu, 24 Oct. The 13th round parliamentary voting for prime minister will be conducted Tuesday.
NC Vice-chairman Ram Chandra Paudel is the sole candidate after Chairman Prachanda withdrew from the protracted contest.
The vote will again be inconclusive as Maoists and UML have continued their boycott of the vote.
NC has said Paudel won’t withdraw from the contest until an outlet is found for concluding the peace process and constitution drafting.
NC leader Dr Narayan Khadka said Monday his party will contest even for 1,300 times.

JUDGE SUSPENDED TO PROBE ALLEGED MISCONDUCT
Kathmandu, 25 Oct.: Pokhara appellate judge Om Prakash Subedi was suspended Monday by the judicial council for being absent from work without permission and alleged misconduct with women.
An investigation has been initiated.

The council formed an investigation team headed by supreme court justice Top Bahadur Magar to investigate.

SECOND RHINO BIRTH AT BARDIYA NATIONAL PARK

Kathmandu 25 Oct. A second rhino birth was recorded at Bardiya National Park Saturday, park officials said.
The first birth was recorded three months ago.
Rhinos were trans-located to the national park in the far-West from Chitwan nearly a decade ago to save the endangered species from extinction.

SOLOBHUMBU CDO ASKED FOR REPORT ON SHOE ATTACK AGANST INDIAN ENVOY

Kathmandu, 25 Oct.: Solokhumbi CDO has been asked to submit a report on a rare shoe attack on Indian Ambassador Rakesh Sood in the district of Mount Everest fame this month by Maoists, the home ministry said Monday.
The ministry said security for VIPs have been stepped up.
The home ministry reaction as India stepped up demand for action by summoning Nepali Ambassador Rukma Shumshere Rana to the foreign office.
India, apparently, wants to push the case.

THREAT OF STRIKE BY PETROLEUM TRANSPORT ENTREPRENEURS

Kathmandu, 25 Oct.: Federation of Nepal Petroleum Transport Entrepreneurs Monday pushed 11 demands threatening a strike if they aren’ met by government and Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC).

.

The demands includes long-term operation of tankers in Barauni-Amlekhgunj route, loading of 800 kiloliters from the Barauni depot and operation of Janakpur-Bhittamod-Barauni route.
