PRESIDENT URGES NEW CONSTITUTION
Kathmandu, 17 Oct.: President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav has extended hearty best wishes to all the Nepali sisters and brothers within and outside the country for happiness, peace and prosperity on the auspicious occasion of Vijaya Dashami, the greatest festival of the Nepalis, RSS reports.
In a message on the occasion, President Yadav said, "The country has made notable political and social achievements in the days after the People's Movement of 2006/07. Our national pledge to making the State secular, democratic republic and inclusive is not only a historic achievement but also a guideline for building a prosperous Nepal. Still today we face the challenge of institutionalising such important achievements and making them sustainable."
The President said there is no alternative to taking the peace process to a meaningful conclusion and promulgating a democratic constitution within the remaining seven and half months tenure of the Constituent Assembly for ensuring the rule of law in the country by institutionalising the democratic republic achieved through the great sacrifice of the Nepali people.
Noting that our real goal is the country that is economically and socially prosperous, President Dr. Yadav said all should be conscious of the fact that the constitution should be formulated at the earliest.
The President expressed the confidence that the political parties and especially, the Constituent Assembly would realise their responsibilities to that regard.
"The Nepali nationalism that draws its strength from ethnic goodwill, religious and cultural tolerance and social unity and territorial integrity is our pride. May Shree Durga Bhawani give to us all the strength to protect this national prestige," the President said in the message.
