RAM CHANDRA PAUDEL DEFEATED AGAIN IN 13th OUN VOTOING FOR PM

Kathmandu, 26 Oct.: NC Vice-President Ram Chandra Paudel was again defeated in the 13th round voting for prime minister was inconclusive Tuesday.
Paudel received only 99 votes while 44 stayed neutral; Maoists and UML, the largest and third largest parties respectively in the legislature, boycotted the vote.
Paudel, the sole candidate in the race, for government chief to succeed Caretaker Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal said after the vote he’ll not withdraw his candidacy until constitution writing and completion of the peace process is guaranteed.
The next round parliamentary vote will be held October 29.

SHER BAHADUR DEUBA APPOINTED NC CENTRAL COMMITTEE MEMBER

Kathmandu, 26 Oct.: Three-time former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba was appointed member of the central working committee (CWC) by newly-elected NC President Sushil Koirala Tuesday.
An appointment letter was delivered to Deuba at his residence by a party functionary.
Koirala can appoint 21 CWC members and Dueba, who claimed he’s the logical successor of Girija Prasad Koirala, was defeated in party elections for president by Sushil at the just concluded 12th general convention in the capital.
The new president didn’t assign any other official party position to Deuba who has been demanding powerful positions in the CWC for him and supporters-a demand opposed by Koirala.
Sixty-four office bearers and CWC members were elected by the generl convention.

PRESIDENT SPENDS TUESDAY NIGHT IN LHASA

Kathmandu, 26 Oct. President Dr Ram Baran Yadav is spending his first night of his week-long visit to China in Lhasa Tuesday.
The president left for China to attend the closing ceremony of the Shanghai Expo Tuesday morning.

SUB-COMMITTEE MEET INCONCLUSIVE

Kathmandu, 26 Oct.: A sub-committee to assist a Prachanda-led task force to discuss directive principles of state policy for incorporation in a constitution to formalize a declared was inconclusive Tuesday.
The sub-committee met for the second consecutive day Tuesday after 27 parties Sunday extended the tenure of the task force by 11 days to submit a report to Chairman Subash Nemwang to narrow down or eliminate differences on 230 points for incorporation in a proposed constitution.
