NC CENTRAL COMMITTEE MEETS SUNDAY

Kathmandu, 28 Nov. The NC central working committee (CWC) meets later Sunday at two in the afternoon.
Party policy, programme and current issues will be discussed, General Secretary Prakash Man Singh said.
Newly elected President Sushil Koirala hasn’t nominated office breakers and 20 members of the CWC even two months after the general convention as required by party statute.
Two months was completed Saturday.
Office bearers nominated by the president have to be okayed by the CWC.
The delay in the appointments indicate difficulty Koirala is facing in nominations by satisfying factions in the party.
Aspirants like Arjun Narsingh KC and Sujata Koirala have been publicly claiming they were assured of top jobs in the party for the support for Sushil who defeated Sher Bahadur Deuba convincingly for the party presidency in the Kathmandu convention.
Defeated three-time prime minister Deuba, whose supporters were elected CWC members, has been demanding top party positions for his supporters even as the new president seeks strengthen his grip on the party by nominating loyalists.
Sushil’s predecessor, Girija Prasad Koirala, ran the party dictatorially without consulting colleagues; Sushil doesn’t have that giant stature of his predecessor to impose his personal decisions.
The new party president, following criticism of his decision to push a one person, one position in the party, later said the issue will be decided by the party.
Amid reports Koirala is appointing Ram Chandra Paudel vice-chairman and Krishna Prasad Shitaula general secretary Sunday, the Deuba camp opposed the move.
“No written proposal has come and consultations haven’t been held either. . There will be protests if the proposal is brought.
“Appointments have to be made through consultation and in a package.
Unilateral appointments won’t be good. The need is to move ahead unitedly. Sher Bahadur Deuba has already said no the proposal,” Gopal Man Shrestha of Deuba camp said.

PASHUPATI TRUST ONEY MISUSED IN GIRIJA FUNERAL

Seven months after the demise of former Prime Minister and then Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala it has been revealed that Rs. 2.5 million spent by Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT) for prasad distribution (dinner) is unpaid till date, Bhadra Sharma reports in The Kathmandu Post..

Late Koirala’s daughter and Deputy Prime Minister Sujata Koirala had hosted a dinner party at Bankali on Pashupatinath premises on the 13th day death ritual of the late leader and the Trust had borne the total expenditure of the dinner following assurances that the money would soon be repaid.

PADT Member Secretary Sushil Nahata, who provided the money without formal decision in the board, is under pressure after the concerned—the government, NC and late leader’s daughter Sujata—remained silent over paying back the money. “Since the party was organised in family status, the government expressed its unwillingness to pay the “amount” provided by the Trust,” PADT Treasurer Narottam Baidhya told the Post.

“Not only the government but also the party and family members seem least bothered about paying the money.” Board members piled pressure on Nahata for “providing a large amount of money unilaterally” and not retrieving the same for months. Besides the arrangement of dinner, PADT had spent Rs. 270,000 following the government’s decision to cremate the former prime minister with full state honour. Both the member secretary and the treasurer were appointed to the Trust under the NC quota.

“I believe that the family or the party had to bear the expenses. They have to repay the money,” said Baidhya. He said then government had cremated Ganesh Man Singh with full state honour but all the expenses except funeral cost was borne by the family.
