PAUDEL’S FOUR CONDITIONS FOR WITHDRAWAL OF HIS CANDIDACY

Kathmandu, 2 Nov.: NC Vice-president Ram Chandra Paudel said Tuesday he’ll withdraw his sole candidacy for the 16th round parliamentary vote for prime minister Thursday if Maoists concede four demands.
Paudel, after a meeting of the parliamentary party which he leads, said he’ll accept Maoist Chairman as a government if four NC conditions are met.
He said seized assets should be returned, weapons in containers under UNMIN watch in 28 cantonments and satellite camps should handed over to government, cantonments should be vacated and YCL should be disbanded and a democratic constitution should be guaranteed.
“We’re ready to accept Prachanda as prime minister,’ the leader of NC parliamentary party said.
“I’m ready to withdraw my candidacy,” he said. “A democratic constitution should be guaranteed. The peace process should first be concluded.”
He added:” “I didn’t withdraw candidacy for understanding between parties.”
Paudel added he hasn’t been defeated in 15 rounds of voting in parliament.
“Only two votes have been cast against me. Others have remained neutral,” Paudel argued.
The NC leader called an understanding between UML and Maoists ‘was faulty’. The two communist parties have joined hands to ask NC to withdraw candidacy for prime minister for a government of national understanding.
NC leader Dr Ram Sharan Mahat said a budget and a package solution were discussed.
The parliamentary party endorsed a central committee decision not to withdraw Paudel’s candidacy and decided to support the caretaker government to present full budget by 16 November.
The complete budget hasn’t been presented even there months after the beginning of the fiscal year 2010/11 as a financial crisis looms amid main opposition Maoist obstruction of budget presentation.
