MORE JUDGES IN FIRING LINE
Kathmandu, 20 Dec.: In its bid to fight corruption and irregularities, Chief Justice Ram Prasad Shrestha-led Judicial Council is all set to take action against five appellate and district court judges, Ananta Raj Luitell reports in The Himalayan Times.
“The JC will take action against them shortly,” a source close to CJ told The Himalayan Times today. The source added that they would be punished based on report of Supreme Court Justice Top Bahadur Magar. Suspended appellate court judge Om Prakash Subedi is among them.
“Action will be taken against Subedi and four judges simultaneously,” the source said. He said the four other judges were from district courts but declined to divulge their names.
JC Secretary Jiwan Hari Adhikary added that the JC’s meeting scheduled for next week would take action against them. “The names will be made public after that,” he said.
According to another source, on Tuesday and Friday Magar probed into charges against suspended Pokhara Appellate Court Judge Subedi. “We have received vital information on his misuse of power,” the source added. The panel found out that Subedi remained absent from duty with informing anyone and had enrolled in Kathmandu School of Law to study LLM. Magar-led panel, comprising two under secretaries Narayan Subedi and Umesh Luitel, have been probing into allegations against Judge Subedi.
When contacted, CJ Shrestha said JC would take strong action against those involved in corruption and irregularities. The JC has also received complaints regarding Judge Subedi´s extramarital affairs. “He has been banned from discharging his duties because questions were also raised over his conduct,” the source added.
Subedi had recently appealed to the public not to show respect to CA members, as they had failed to promulgate new constitution.
