600 FAGU REVELERS ARRESTED

Kathmandu, 19 March: Nearly 600 fagu revelers, including children, were arrested Saturday in the capital for excesses during celebrations.
Children were delivered to guardians.
Authorities had urged a restrained celebration.
Nearly 1,000 policemen were deployed.
Dozens of motorcycles were seized.

OLD FARES IN KARNALI ANCHAL RESTORED

Kathmandu, 19 March: Old airfares to Karnali anchal and other remote areas raised 56 percent five weeks ago were restored by government Saturday for 15 days.
Government asked protestors to come for negotiations to fix new fares for which government has formed a negotiating team under a senior official.
Fares to other areas remain unchanged.

UML.NC MEET

Kathmandu, 19 March: A five-member UML dialogue team led by former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal held discussions with top NC leaders at Lalitpur Saturday.
The NC team was led by Party President Sushil Koirala said an environment for trust can’t be created until a 7-poont agreement between UML and Maoists in scrapped.
UML is attempting to draw NC into government.

SC ORDERS OPENING OF BANNED BURIAL SITE FOR NON-HINDUS AT PASHUPATINATH AREA

Kathmandu, 19 March: The supreme court (SC) Friday directed the government and Pashupatinath Area Development Trust (PADT) to permit non-Hindus to bury their dead at Sleshmantak burial ground around the near the holiest Hindu temple.
PADT had prevented non-Hindus from burying their dead.
Christians were on protests.
The apex court ordered burial at the site until alternative sites are located.
A public interest litigation was filed by Chari Bahadur Gahatraj saying Christians had been burying their dead there.
