SURYA BAHADUR THAPA CONTNUES POLTICAL CONSULATIONS IN INDIA
Kathmandu, 9 March: Surya Bahadur Thapa continued political consultations in New Delhi getting good reception from leaders and officials.
The former prime minister and Chairman of Rashtriya Janashakti Party (RJP) held discussions with main opposition BJP leader Sushma Swarap and Congress (I) Foreign Department Chief Karan Singh.
Thapa Monday began political discussions by consulting Congress (I) Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani.
Thapa went of a ‘political’ pilgrimage’ –like other leaders—at a time when open concern is being expressed a second deadline to promulgate constitution may not be met 28 May.
Even if the deadline is met, there are also doubts the basic lay will enshrine the fundamental principles of liberal democracy.
A constitution has already been declared by an unelected self-appointed parliament but the declared republic has to be institutionalized by promulgating a constitution.
The former rime minister held consultations while he’s pushing a ‘democratic front’ with NC and other parties against a majority communist government under Prime Minister Jhalanatah Khanal with support of Maoists.
A faction within Khanal’s own UML, which he chairs, is also opposed to the communist alliance charging a communist polarization is being dangerously pushed.
