MAIN CONSTITUTION DRAFTING COMMMITTEE MEET DISRUPTED

Kathmandu, 31 March: A meeting of the main constitution
Drafting committee Thursday was adjourned until Friday after
several members of small parties shredded a report on a state
restructuring committee in the assembly hall.
Protesting members from small parties complained Dalits,
Muslims and minorities had been sidelined in the constitution
drafting process.
It’s unlikely a constitution will be promulgated to institutionalize
a declared republic by a self-appointed and unelected parliament by the second extended 28 May deadline.

FINANCE MINISTER ADHIKARI IN DMAGE CONTROL EFFORT

Kathmandu, 31 March: In a damage control bid, Finance Ministerr Bharat Mohan Adhikari Thursday, in his second news conference in
two days, asked Finance Secretary Rameshwor Khanal to
resume work,
Khanal confirmed he resigned following policy differences with the new the communist majority government on budgetary matters,
Adhikari held the conference in the presence of senior finance ministry officials in an attempt to show he had support of the
ministry officials.

INDUSTRY REPRESENTATIVES MEET PRIME MNISTER KHANAL


Kathmsndu, 31 March: Industry representatives met Prime
Minister Jhalanath Khanal Thursday in the capital as they were
about to present keys of closed down industries in the Motang/
/Sunsari corridor.
The protest programme was postponed for another two days in an effort to buy time.
