DALITS, MUSLIMS CLOSE DOWN BIRGUNJ

Kathmandi, 27 April: Agitating Dalits and Muslims also shut down Birjung Wednesday as only one month remains to promulgate a constitution to institutionalize a declared republic.
The minority groups have charged the Big Three-Maoists, NC and UML—for ignoring their interests while discussing a constitution.
The groups had been disrupting meetings of the constitution drafting committee to press and highlight their demands.
Communities and groups Wednesday demanding ethnic states and autonomy have closed down districts, including three in the Valley, pressing demands The strike has disrupted if in the hills, terai and urban centers.

PM KHANAL FAILS TO ATTEND PARLIAMENTARY PARTY MEET

Kathmandu, 27 April: Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal, who is chairman of UML and leader of the parliamentary party, failed to attend Tuesday a meeting of the parliamentary party and instead went to Rasuwa.
The meeting was convened to discuss the party’s approach at parliament’s budget session which has been convened.
Khanal is being isolated in the ruling party after he was elected government chief with Maoist support through a secret 7-point agreement with his Maoist counterpart Prachanda.
The agreement has come under heavy fire from a faction led by former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal and KP Sharma Oli.
Khanal, through a party notification, also abruptly Wednesday’s scheduled central committee meeting saying preparations were inadequate.
Critics charged Khanal for putting off the meet to avoid criticism for his affinity with Maoists and run the government unilaterally without consulting the party.

SENIOR JOURNALIST ASSAULTED ONPAVEMENT AROUND A US COMPLEX IN THE CAPITAL

Kathmandu, 27 April: Armed Police Force personnel deployed at the American Recreational Center at Phora Durbar Tuesday assaulted Yubaraj Ghimere, editor of The Reporter.
Ghimere was mistreated on the pavement around the Center.
Senior journalist Ghimere is a columnist for language newspapers and also strings for various foreign media outlets.
“I was exchanging telephone numbers with Dr. Suresh Chalise and Dr. Prayag Raj Sharma. Suddenly a person of the armed police force (APF) assaulted me asking why I was standing there,” Ghimere said.
The journalist immediately reported the incident to APF headquarters that sent a team to investigate an incident.
The pavement is not out of bounds for walkers although security personnel are deployed around the sprawling complex for security of the complex.
The center is located at the busy city center.

DINESH ADHIKARI CHARI ARRESTED

Kathmandu, 27 April: Noted Dihesh Adhikari ‘Chari’ on the police wanted list was nabbed by police at Nagdhunga by police with weapons as he was attempting to get out of the Valley Tuesday.
Adhikari and eight gang members were arrested.
He’s associated with UML.

RASHTRIYA JANAMORCHA NATIONAL MEET BEGINS

Kathmandu, 27 April: The three-day 2nd national assembly of Rashtriya Janamorcha began in Pokhara Tuesday.
Chairman Chitra Bahadur KC launched the assembly.
The splinter communist group opposes a federal structure.

LAWMAKER WHO ALLEGEDLY SOLD DIPLOMATIC PASSPORT ABSCONDING

Kathmandu, 27 April: Shivapujan Raya, who allegedly sold his diplomatic passport for monetary gain, is missing, Naya Patrika reports.
The lawmaker from MFFL went missing from Friday.
He’s under CIAA’s scanner.
CIAA sent him a letter two weeks ago asking he present himself before the anti-graft agency.
