KAILALI STORM CAUSES EXTENSIVE DAMAGE
Kathmandu, 18 April: An overnight storm hit more that
one dozen VDCs in Kailali in far-West causing extensive damage.
Roofs of more than 500 houses were blown off and villages
have been plunged into darkness after electricity poles were uprooted.
No human casualties have been reported.

ONE DEAD, 10 INJURED IN INJURED IN ANOTHER
BUS ACCIDENT
Kathmandu, 18April: One person died and 10 were injured, seven
seriously in another vehicular accident—daily occurrences.
The driver lost control causing the accident Monday at Ghatbesi
on Prithvi highway, police said.
The injured were rescued and are being treated locally.
The bus was heading for the capital from Kakarvitta.
Meanwhile, 10 persons were injured in a direct collision
between two vehicles Monday in Kailali.

UN OFFICIAL ARRIVING
Kathmandu, 18 April: UN Deputy High Commissioner for
Human Rights (UNHCR) Kyung-wha Kang arrives for a three-day visit to review the rights situation.
She’s also coming at a time when the UNHCR has asked for
a two-month extension of its tenure that ends June.
The Commission has already closed regional offices in Nepal
as government asked it to enhance the capability of the National Commission for Human Rights (NCHRM) to monitor the rights situation as a national body.
The senior UN official comes as UNMN
wound up its business 15 January after a failed
four-year attempt to cap the peace process.
The ’international community’, especially western capitals launched an international campaign during royal rule in 2005 to defame national institutions and personalities to prepare the groundwork for the entryon UN bodies in Nepal.

GERMAN TRAFFICKER HELD
Kathmandu, 18 April: German trafficker Hams Michael Puschar
was arrested Saturday before boarding an international flight at
Tribhuvan International Airport.
Altogether 2 kg hash concealed in his baggage was recovered during a
check.

GORKHAPATRA HAS NEW EDITOR
Kathmandu, 18 April: Sitaram Agrahari has been
appointed acting editor of Gorkhapatra, the country’s first
newspaper.
He tookover responsibilities Monday.
