26 SECRETARIES TRANSFERRED

Kathmandu, 15 May: In sweeping transfer of senior government of Prime Minister Jhananath Khanal , after more that three months in office, Saturday transferred 26 secretaries.
Lilamani Paudel, currently leading a team of officials attempting to climb the 8848 meters high Mount Everest, the world’s tallest peak, has been appointed home secretary and Krishnahari Banskota has been nominated finance secretary.
Banskota succeeds Rameshwor Khanal who resigned six weeks ago in a high profile resignation charging Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bharat Mohan Adhikari for by-passing the finance ministry in a failed attempt to present a complete budget for the remaining four months of the current fiscal year.
Sushil Jung Rana is new commerce secretary.
Gobinda Kusum and Purusottam Ojha have been transferred to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers
Chiranjibi Panta and Sushil Ghimere have been appointed secretaries at the ministry of forest and soil conservation and local development ministry respectively.
Government has discontinued practice of appointing two secretaries in one ministry.
The promotions were recommended by a four-member cabinet committee headed by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bharat Mohan Adhikari.
Shanker Pandey has been appointed education secretary while Pratap Kumar Pathak has bee moved to the ministry of general administration; Shridhar Gautam is communications secretary and Ganesh Raj Joshi secretary at ministry of tourism and civil aviation.
Shanker Koirala is industry secretary, Dhurba Sharma secretary at ministry of peace and reconstruction and Keshab Bhattarai is secretary at the land reform and management ministry.
Ananda Pokhrel is secretary women, culture and social welfare, Shri Ram Panta youth and sports secretary ad Balananda Sharma energy secretary.
Krishna Geywali has been transferred to ministry of environment, Ram Hari Aryal ministry of science and technology ,Tana Gautam ministry of irrigation and Shyam Prasad Mainali secretary public service commission.
Kishore Thapa is secretary election commission, Shital Babu Regmi
secretary water and energy commission, Yagya Gautam secretary national vigilance center and Brindha Hada secretary Nepal Trust.
Uma Kantha Jha is secretary at information commission.
Yubaraj Bhusal and Soma Lal Subedi have been sent to the national planning commission and prime minister’s office (reserve) respectively.

MAIN CONSTITTON DRAFTING COMMITTEE MEETS SUNDAY

Kathmandu, 15 May: Main constitution drafting headed by Nilambar Acharya ,meets Sunday after four Dalit, Muslim and independent constituent assembly (CA) members disrupted meetings for 26 days.
Acharya convened the meeting at the request of CA Chairman Subash Nemwang.
Only 13 days remain to promulgate a constitution;
The committee will discuss extending a tenure of an empowered sub-committee under it headed by Chairman Prachanda to sort out contentious articles to be incorporated in a constitution.
The Maoist boss walked out of the sub-committee saying he had a busy schedule and suggested he be succeeded by Vice-chairman Narayan Kazi Shrestha.
But the communist-dominated government o f Maoists and UML has registered a motion in parliament to extend the assembly tenure for the second time for one year after its tenure ends 28 May
The proposal needs two-third majority support of the 598-menber parliament ;government doesn’t have that support.
Main opposition NC opposes the CA tenure extension demanding formation of a national unity government; influential members of Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal’s own UML party also oppose the extension proposal saying the resolution registered in parliament wasn’t discussed in the ruling party.
Influential; UML members including former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, KP Sharma Oli and General Secretary Ishwor Pokhrel have opposed the government proposal.

PRACHANDA HOPES TO BE ELECTED PRESDENT NOT PM

Kathmandu, 15 May: Maoist Chairman Prachanda said Saturday be wanted to be an elected president while installing anybody else from his party as prime minister.
“I feel government under Maoist leadership should be formed under others instead of me right now
“My desire is to be a directly elected president after the promulgation of a constitution with the completion of the peace process,” the Maoist chief told Himalayan TV.

HOUSEHOLD LISTINGS START SUNDAY

Kathmandu, 15 May: Listing of households by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) ahead of a national census later in 2011 began Sunday
Over 18 days 8,500 supervisors will collect data on family heads, family size, caste and gender while visiting an estimated 5.8 million households
The country’s population is expected to reach 28.5 million when the national census conducted every 10 years is held later this year.

US 2012 DIVERSITY VISA RESULT ANNULLED

Kathmandu, 15 May: US State Department has annulled result of the Diversity-2012 programme.
The Department said results previously posted on its website http://dvlottery.state.gov weren’t valid and were posted erroneously.
An estimated 22,00 persons, including Nepalis, were selected in May.
