UPDATE ON NC PUBLIC MEETING

Kathmandu, 20 May: Main opposition NC President Sushil Koirala Friday asked the communist majority government to fulfill committed responsibilities while addressing in the capital the last month-long public awareness meetings of a public awareness for peace and constitution drafting.
‘Fulfill your responsibilities. Don’t take our demands as weakness,” Koirala told thousands of supporters, including activists who had been bussed to the capital .
Nearly a dozen speakers made public the party’s official position on completing the delayed peace process and constitution darfting before 28 May at the public meeting at Khula Manch,
“’Snap your ties with arms and pursue politics of ideas,” parliamentary party leader Ram Chandra Paudel said.
Woman leader Chitralekha Yadav said Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal’s secret 7-ponit agreement with Maoists thorough which UML Chairman Khanal secured the prime ministerial post said should be scrapped.
Three Madesh parties in Janakput said the constituent assembly has outlived its utility and its tenure shouldn’t be extended after 28 May.
Maoist leader Deb Gurung said the NC utterances were ‘unprincipled’.
Nepal is heading towards another political and constitutional crisis if a last-minute agreement between government and opposition isn’t reached as in the past.
The reasons for posturing of parties ahead of 28 May will become only that day.
Their public positions could change at the 11th hour.
