MAOISTS AGREE TO MIXED FORCE FOR INTEGRATION OF 10,000 COMBATANTS

MAOISTS SAY ARMY PROPOSAL FOR MIXED FORCE FOR INTEGRATION POSITIVE

Kathmandu, 19 May: Maoist standing committee meet Thursday concluded Nepal Army suggestion of a mixed force of Maoists and personnel of state security agencies for integration of former rebel combatants was ‘positive’, according to Barsha Man Pun.
The standing committee met Thursday and discussions will continue Friday. Maoists agreed human resources should be mobilized to monitor 19,000former Maoist combatants in cantonments and camps after UNMIN withdrawal 15 January after four years.
“With integration of 10,000 combatants their contribution will be honoured,” Pun said
Discussions will be held with other parties and concerned groups on the number to be integrated, Pun said
NC has suggested integration of 3,00p to 4000 former combatants

PRESIDENT, SPEAKER DISCUSSIONS

Kathmandu, 19 May: President Dr.Ram Baran Yadav and Speaker Subash Nemwang held late night discussions amid political uncertainty as main opposition NC rejected Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal’s proposal to extend a constituent assembly for one year after 28 May.
NA demanded Maoists submit specific proposal to complete the peace process 24 May to extend the tenure for the second time in three years.
Positions of the communist majority government and main opposition have hardened. Ahead of 28 May.
