POLITICAL, CONSTITUTIONAL CRISIS LOOMS LARGE AMID NC THREAT NOT TO EXTEND CA TENURE

Kathmandu, 18 May: Main opposition NC Wednesday finalized its seven-point perception for integration and resettlement of 19,000 plus Maoist combatants holding up the completion of the peace process. for four years, party sources said.
Money doled out to them every month by government and five European donors is s source of funding for the country’s largest communist party which is duly elected, critics in and outside parties said.
NC said an environment must be created by 24 May or four days before a 28 May deadline to promulgate a constitution to extend the tenure of the constituent assembly (CA) proposed.
The main opposition leaders said the CA tenure won’t be extended is such an environment isn’t created.
A political and constitutional crisis will ensue.
The CA is the only body empowered to promulgate a constitution; the country is now government by an interim constitution promulgated by an unelected and self-appointed parliament.
“What are we going to tell the people,” Sujata Koirala,who is a central committee member told reporters.
“What are we going to tell people when we are asked why the term of the assembly is being extended? she asked>”
Party President Sushil Korala was present when the concept paper was finalized at the residence of Sher Bahadur Deuba Wednesday.
The document will be presented to the party central committee Thursday and made public at a public meeting in the capital one day later Friday.
Maoist Vice-Chairman Narayan Kazi Shrestha immediately rejected the concept. paper immediately at Reporter’s Club. in the capital and said chaos will be invited
The document proposes integration of 5,000 of only 19,000 former Maoist combatants in 28 cantonments and camps.
The document will be submitted to other parties, including Maoists.
The CA will be extended conditionally for six month—three months to complete the peace process and remaining three months to draft a constitution.
Maoist fighters who came out of cantonments and camps and participated in a just concluded party Palungtar, Gorkha, general convention won’t be eligible for integration, the main opposition party has decided.

Kathmandu, 18 May; Gyanendra Kumar Shrestha, Tulasi Ram Bhandari, Khim Lal Gautam, Shanta Kumar Maharjan, Hari Dhakal, Padam Bhandari, Hari Guragain, Suraj Pokhrel and Subir Shrestha were the officials who stood atop Mount Everest at 5.50 Wednesday morning, ministry of tourism said.
Officials climbed in two groups with the help of Sherpa guides.
Officials attached with tourism ministry issue permits to expeditions to scale Himalayan peaks in Nepal but this is the first time officials climbed the world’s tallest peak.
In the past, officials have been attached with expeditions as liaison officers.

ROHIT KUMAR SUBBA KILLED IN JHAPA.
Kathmandu, 18 May: Rohit Kumar Subba, 25, was killed in a murderous attack by an unidentified group Wednesday morning at Anarmani-4 in Jhapa. Wednesday
Subba died immediately of head injuries at his home where he was assaulted.

ONE KILLED, 20 INJURED IN KAVRE BUS ACCIDENT
Kathmandu, 18 May: A 11-year-old male youth died when a bus fell off a road into a river in Kavre Wednesday.
Twenty were injured.
Lightning killed two persons at Dumariya in Kailali in the far-West Wednesday.

SUPREME COURT EDICT TO TU
Kathmandu, 18 May: A two-judge bench of the supreme court ruled in favour of two students who asked for scrutiny of examination papers demanding re-totaling.
The students of a educational center filed writ petition challenging a previous court decision pressing demanding personal scrutiny of their answer papers
