TOURIST CHOPPER FLIGHTS TO MOUNT EVEREST BASE CAMP BANNED

FUETHER DETAILS OF MAOIST CONFIRMATION ATTEMPT TO KILL DR. BABURAM BHATTARAI

Kathmandu, 18 May: Maoist Spokesman Dinanath Sharma said Wednesday there could be infiltration by reactionaries in UCPN (Maoist) with increasing indiscipline while confirming of a plan to kill one of the party’s two vice-chairmen.

“Serious suspicions have arisen whether infiltration of reactionaries has reached dangerous level with the latest increased anarchic, undisciplined and chaotic activities of some elements
‘We feel it’s the party’s responsibility to investigate the incident and take disciplinary action against those involved
‘We feel it’s party responsibility to assure all party units and general public,” Sharma said in a statement Tuesday.
The party confirmation comes after Bhattarai told Home Minister Krishna Bahadur Mahara, a Maoist, and General Secretary Ram Bahadur Thapa he received elimination threats demanding security and protection.
The revelation in the largest ruling party, which is also communist, comes amid a deep division between three camps loyal to Chairman Prachanda, Dr.Bhattarai and another Vice-chairman Mohan Baidya.

TAXI FARE INCREASED FROM TUESDAY

Kathmandu, 18 May: Taxi fare was increased 17 percent to Rs 27 from Rs. 23 per km effective Tuesday.
Flag-down fare remains at Rs.10.
Fare for every 200 meters has been increased to Rs. 5.4 from Rs 4.6

2,500 VISITORS ATTEND EMBASSY OPEN HOUSE IN WASHINGTON

Kathmandu, 18 May: Around 2,500 visitors attended an Embassy Open House organized Saturday by Nepal embassy in Washington to promote trade, culture and tourism, the embassy said.

FLIGHTS TO MOUNT EVEREST BASE CAMP BANNED

Kathmandu, 18 May Direct helicopter flights to the 5,350 base camp of Mount Everest, the 8848 meters high world’s tallest peak, for takeoff and landing with tourists has been banned, Nagarik reports.
But flights over the camp will be permitted.
Rescue flights to the base camp will also be permitted.
A decision was taken by the tourism and civil aviation ministry, Nepal Civil Aviation Authority and an association of airline operators.
‘A decision has been taken not to permit flights to land and takeoff from base camp with tourists Flights will be permitted to land at Kalapattar base camp lower down ,” Suman Pandey told Nagarik after the meeting.
Kalapattar base camp is situated at 5242 meters.
