PM, PRESIDENT MEET AMID POLITICAL CRISIS

PM, PRESIDENT MEET;OTHER DETAILS

Kathmandu, 28 May: Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal held consultations with President Dr.Ram Baran Yadav
Saturday morning amid a developing political crisis.
Details of their discussions weren’t immediately available.
But during such consultations, the prime minister normally asks the head of state to announce important government decisions.
The one-year tenure of the constituent assembly ends in another 14 hours at midnight Saturday without promulgating a constitution to institutionalize a declared republic.
Parliament session that was to begin at eight in the morning has been delayed by two hours.
Maoist standing committee meeting is being held at the residence of Chairman Prachanda and a joint meeting of the NC central working committee and parliamentary party has concluded.
Top leaders of the main opposition briefed the joint meeting on developments so far.
UML parliamentary party meeting is continuing.

PROHIBITED AREAS EXTENDED

Kathmandu, 28 May: Prohibited areas in the capital were extended to other areas in the capital Saturday through a home ministry notification.
Local administration announced earlier areas around the constituent assembly hall prohibited were public meetings ad demonstrations were banned.
Prohibited areas were extended following Friday evening’s meeting of the national security council chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Krishna Bahadur Mahara.
Areas around the official residences of the president, prime minister and Singha Durbar were also declared prohibited areas.

STRIKES DISRUPT NORMAL LIFE

Kathmandu, 28 May: Strikes called by various groups pushing ethnic, regional and other demands disrupted normal life Saturday nation-wide.
Strike call disrupted life in the Valley as well


NEW CHINESE AMBASSADOR

Kathmandu, 28 May: Yang Houlan has been appointed China’s ambassador to Nepal.
Yang is ambassador for Korean Peninsula Affairs.
He succeeds Zheng Xianglin who was recalled before completing his tenure.
