MAOIST FOGHTER INTEGRATION PROCESS DELAYED INDEFINITELY

THREE PARTY SUMMIT INCONCLUSIVE UPDATE

Kathmandu, 19 June: A Big Three summit to discuss integration and resettlement of 19,000 plus former Maoist combatants, a review of delayed implementation of a tripartite five-point agreement that extended the constituent assembly after 28 May and other issues was inconclusive Sunday.
Ruling parties Maoists, UML and main opposition NC formed a six-member task force to hold ‘unofficial discussions’ to submit recommendation to the summit for resolution of issues discussed Sunday,
A special committee headed by the prime minister on integration and integration won’t decide on integration before approval of recommendations of the recommendations by the tripartite summit, Maoist Vice-chairman Narayan Kazi Shretha said.
In effect, integration process has been delayed and the special committee meeting won’t be held immediately although it was earlier decided it would meet thrice a week to hasten the process.
A special committee cmeetinglchaired by the premier was obviously inconclusive Sunday.
The meeting formed a six-member task force of the Big Three for unofficial discussions
Maoist representatives are Vice-Chairman Narayan Kazi Shresta and Barsha Man Pun, a former PLA military boss; NC is represented by Vice-president Ram Chandra Paudel and Dr. Ram Sharan Mahat while former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal and General Secretary Ishwor Pokhrel represent UML.

SUSHIL KOIRALA DEMANDS IMMEDIATE RESIGNSTION OF PM UPDATE

Kathmandu, 19 June: Main opposition NC President Sushil Koirala Sunday demanded immediate resignation of Prime Minster Jhalanath Khanal before emplaning for New York for a regular medical check-up.
He denied any ‘written or written” agreement with three-time prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba for his takeover of the leadership of the parliamentary party be replacing Ram Chandra Paudel.
Koirala denied any six –point agreement with Deuba to secure the latter’s support for expansion of the central committee through presidential nominations of party vice-chairman and general secretary according to party statute..
Koirala nominated Ram Chandra Paudel and Krishna Prasad Shitaula to the respective party posts
Deuba claimed there was an agreement to his appointment as party parliamentary party leader to replace Paudel to secure presidential appointments by an elected and nominated central committee following a closely fought presidential election in which Deuba was defeated.
Deuba lawmakers held a meeting last week to prepare a no-confidence against Paudel in the parliamentary party if the incumbent parliamentary party leader doesn’t clear the way for a Deuba takeover.
Koirala also said Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal is delaying submitting his resignation.
“He should have already resigned, A commitment has come. Why the delay?” he asked. in front of reporters before departure.

FOUR LAWMAKERS FOR FIRST TIME THROWN OUT OF PARLIAMENT

Kathmandu. 19 June:: Speaker Subash Nemwang for the first time in more than three years forcibly threw out four lawmakers of small parties with the help of marshals Sunday and suspended them for one week.
His attitude and procedures have hardened as no progress has been made in drafting a proposed constitution within three months even in nearly three weeks after its extension.
Only nine weeks remain to complete the process and major parties are at loggerheads.
The expelled lawmakers had been previously obstructing parliamentary and assembly sessions.

MAOISTS THREATEN TO FIGHT DEPLOYMENT OF TROOPS

Kathmandu, 19 June : Maoist leader Dharmindra Bastola Sunday threatened to oppose a recent cabinet decision to deploy Nepal Army troops for hydro power plants saying it was ‘anti-national
The cabinet took a decision to deploy troops after a Maoist attack on facilities in the far-West on complex of an Indian power company developing after a contract was awarded to develop the giant Upper Karnali power project.
