INTEGRATION DEADLINE MISSED

SUNDAY DEADLINE FOR MODALITY FOR INTEGRATION OF FORMER MAOIST FIGHTERS WILL BE MISSED

Kathmandu, 19 June: Sunday’s deadline to finalize a modality for integration, resettlement and supervision of 19,000 plus former Maoist combatants at 28 cantonments and satellite camps will be missed
The special committee for integration, resettlement and supervision headed by the prime minister didn’t meet Thursday and Saturday for Maoist representatives didn’t show up to push the issue.
Earlier, Maoists refused to sign a document to handover their weapons to government at a meeting of the committee.
A faction in the party loyal to Mohan Baidya, one of three vice chairmen in the ruling UCPN (Maoist) openly challenged was has been called a ‘personal’ decision of Chairman Prachanda to disarm and return former PLA fighters deployed for security of top party leaders.
While the party chief disarmed and sent the former guerrillas to the 3rd division at Shaktikhor, Chitwan, other leaders challenged Prachanda’s decision and retained security also provided by the party.
The Maoist chief took the decision following the extension of the tenure of the constituent assembly by another three months after 28 May facilitated by a tripartite five-point agreement to complete the peace process and constitution drafting in the extended period.
A special committee meet has again been called late Sunday afternoon.
A summit of the Big Three, Maoists, NC and UML, which was put off Saturday is scheduled for Sunday as well

SUSHIL KOIRALA FLYING TO NEW YORK FOR MEDICAL CHECk-UP SUNDAY

Kathmandu, 19 June: NC President Suhil Koirala flies for New York Sunday for a regular medical check-up at a New York hospital 23 June amid a continuing political crisis at home.
Koirala will undergo a check-up at the New York hospital where he underwent tongue cancer surgery two years ago.
He’s expected to return home in another 10 days via Great Britain and Switzerland.

BODY OF OFFICIAL FOUND IN COMMUNITY FOREST

Kathmandu, 19 June: Body with wounds of Yagra Raj Upadhaya, Vice-chairman of VDC Employees’ Association and technical assistant at Dodhara VDC,Kanchanpur at found Friday in a community forest at Chadani-7 near the Indo-Nepal border.
Employees demanded an inquiry into his death saying he was murdered and threatened a strike
He reported for work Thursday.
