following talks with Maoist Home Krishna Bahadur Mahara,
Other protest programmes were also suspended after the release of

THREE TOP MAOIST LEADERS ATTEND A PUBLIC PROGRAMME AMID INTENSE DIFFERENCES IN PARTY

Kathmandu, 16 June; Maoist Chairman Prachanda Thursday said he will attempt to resolve internal party differences to ‘move ahead until final victory is attained’ while addressing a public meeting in Rautahat.
Differences and discussions are natural, he added.
The top three leaders, including Vice-chairmen Mohan Baidya and Dr Baburam Bhattarai, addressed a meeting at Pipra despite deep ideological differences which some other party leaders warned publicly could split the largest political and communist party.
They assured the party won’t split.
Prachanda said discussions and differences were natural.
They appeared publicly to give a message of unity on the anniversary death of Rit Bahadur Khadka, who was killed during the 10-year Maoist insurgency.
Bidya echoed similar sentiments and reasoned objective of discussion was to achieve a goal.
A scheduled party standing committee meeting wasn’t held this week following differences citing homework for the meeting wasn’t completed.
The chairman, Baidya, Bhattarai and another Vice-chairman Narayan Kazi Shrestha have been attempting to consolidate their positions holding separate meetings and organizing political training camps.
The Baiyda faction even leveled 18 accusations against the party boss through an internal party circular.

PM, PRESIDENT MEET

Kathmandu, 16 June: Amid a brewing political crisis, Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal held discussions Thursday with President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav.
Khanal briefed the ceremonial president on progress and challenges in implementing a five-point tripartite agreement between the Big Three that facilitated the extension of the constituent assembly for another three months after 28 May.
“The president urged the prime minister to announce the annual budget in time so that uncertainty shouldn’t be repeated. The economy was adversely affected for the last two years,” the president’s press advisor Rajendra Dahal said.

SUJATA KOIRALA CHINA BOUND

Kathmandu, 16 June: Sujata Koirala flew for China Thursday to attend the first international forum organized in Lianggjing New Area economic zone by Chongqing municipality, West China.
The zone is seeking foreign investment.
Member of the politburo of CPC central committee Bo Xilai, former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and former South Korean Prime Minister Chung Unchen are scheduled to address the meeting.
