PRESIDENT LAUNCHES 11TH NATIONAL CENSUS
11th. NATIONAL CENSUS LAUNCHED
Kathmandu, 17 June: National Planning Commission Secretary Yubaraj Bhusal and Director General Secretary Bureau of Statistics (CBS) Uttam Narayan Malla collected personal and family details of president Dr. Ram Baran Yadav Friday morning to launch the 11th. National Census 2001 conduced every 10 years.
President asked all countrymen to cooperation in the national effort.
The event was broadcast live by radio and television from Shital Niwas.
Details will be collected from Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal and Vice-president Parmananda Jha as well Friday.
Altogether 46,500 enumerators and 8,500 supervisors will collect family and personal in two forms details in a 10-day operation as the monsoon broke over east Nepal.
Nepal’s population was 23.151 million in the last census.
Fourteen family and 84 personal details will be recorded.

The current population is estimated at 28.5 million; population was 5.639 million in the first census 100 years ago.
Results will be announced in three months.
Religion, cast, ethnicity, economic status third genders and other details will be collected in a 30-minute effort.

UML BANDH DISRUPTS NORMAL LIFE; OTHER DETAILS

FOUR BHUTANESE REFUGEES HELD
Kathmandu, 17 June; Four Bhutanese refugees suspected of murdering their colleague at Belgandi camp in Jhapa one day were arrested one day later Thursday.
Nabin Rai, Hiralal Darji, Dambar Biswas, Bhanubhakta Adhikari and Madhav Kumar Limbu were arrested to investigate the murder of Ram Kumar Gurung.
