SURRENDER OF MAOIST WEAPONS PUT OFF UNTIL LAST MOMENT

INTEGRATION AND SURRENDER OF MAOIST WEAPONS NOT IMMEDIATE CONCERN

Kathmandu, 7 June: Processes for categorization of 19,000 plus Maoist combatants desirous for integration or resettlement along with surrender of their weapons will be completed only by 27 August.
The extended three-month deadline to complete a draft of the a constitution and complete the peace process ends one day later 28 August.
A special committee for integration, rehabilitation and supervision headed by the prime minister took the decision Tuesday after a consecutive second day discussion Tuesday.
Major parties, including main opposition NC are included in the committee.
NC had been demanding immediate handover of weapons; the party has been charged for renegading on a 10-point demand to extend the constituent assembly conditionally.
The committee will meet again Thursday.
Integration and surrender of Maoist weapons have been put off until the last moment.

STORM LASHES DANG

Kathmandu, 7 June: A violent storm lashed Dang in the mid-West around causing extensive damage around district Ghorai late afternoon.
Full damage reports haven’t come.
Initial reports put damage at Rs. 20 million.
Thee district has been plunged into darkness.
