DATE FOR MAOIST CENTRAL COMMITTEE FINALLY FIXED

MAOIST CENTRAL COMMITTEE MEETS WEDNESDAY (DEVELOPING STORY)

Kathmandu, 10 July: The repeatedly postponed UCPN (Maoist) central committee will meet Wednesday.
The party standing committee whose meetings were also repeatedly postponed because of intra-party differences fixed the date without setting an agenda Sunday.
The decision was unanimous.
The failure to specify an agenda reflects the deep ideological and other differences in the largest party which is also communist as well.
Party Chairman Prachanda’s leadership is being challenged amid deep ideological differences as well.
The central committee will fix the agenda, leader CP Gajurel said

NEPAL POLICE DSP SENT TO JAIL

Kathmandu 10 July: Nepal Police DSP Dinesh KC accused by CIAA in the Rs 280 million Sudan scam was sent to jail Sunday after he failed to furnish a Rs 3.5 million bail or security for his release by a special court.
He is the first of 34 policemen sent to prison for alleged involvement in procuring defective armed personnel carriers (APC’s) for peacekeepers assigned with the UN is Sudan Darfur endangering the lives of peacekeepers.
A 3-member bench of the court took the decision.
The court said KC was a member of the board that took a decision to acquire the APCs.
The UN would reimburse the normal purchase and acquisition.
Two contractors who supplied the faulty logistics have also been charged by CIAA.

NEPAL FESTIVAL IS SEOUL

Kathmandu, 10 July: The Embassy of Nepal in Seoul, Korea organised a day-long “Nepal Festival 2011” at Yeoido Hangang Park in Seoul on Sunday, as part of the annual program of promoting economic diplomacy, RSS reports..

On the occasion, Ambassador of Nepal to Korea, Kamal Koirala highlighted the purpose and objectives of organising this program and underscored the importance of such an event in promoting Nepali culture, trade, tourism and investment in Korea.

Cultural show and Nepali food served by the Nepali community living in Korea were the highlights of the event organised with the support of local organisations, Seoul Global Centre, Non-Resident Nepalese Association, and Nepal Tourism Board.

Promotional brochures and information materials as well as t-shirts were distributed to the large number of Korean nationals who came to observe the event.

Also present at the program were members of the Nepali community including students in Korea, members of the diplomatic community, representatives of Nepal-Korea Friendship Association, Korean Business community, Korea Buddhist Coalition for Social Welfare, the Journalists Federation of Korea, and Korea Alpine Association.

161-POINT KATHMANDU DECLARATION FOR CAOITAL ANNOUNCED

Kathmandu 10 June: A 161-point Kathmandu Declaration 2068 wan announced for improvement of the capital’s environment..

Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal announced the declaration.
The document was prepared by an unelected municipality now run by government officials.
