EVEREST BANK LTD, SPECIAL GENERAL MEET TO APPROVE MERGER PLAN

EVEREST BANK LTD. CALLS SPECIAL GENERAL MEET

Kathmandu, 11 July: Everest Bank Ltd., a joint venture with India’s Punjab National Bank, has called a special general meeting 16 July to discuss a merger with an unidentified bank or financial institution.
A notice was issued in newspapers Monday.
Kumari Bank Ltd. has also convened a special general meeting the same day.
Nepal Rashtra Bank, the central bank, has been pushing mergers.

NEPALI ROAD ENGINEER TO BE HONOURED

Kathmandu, 11 July; Nepali road engineer Indu Sharma will be honoured by World Road Association (WRA) in Mexico by the PIARC Prize 2011 in September.
The honour is awarded once every four years.
The former Deputy Director General of Department of Roads is Programme Director with Asian Development Bank.
Sharma is being honoured for his concept of bioengineering while constructing Dharan-Dhankuta Highway and Lamosanghu-Jiri Highway.

SUPREME COURT RELEASES FIVE TIBETANS

Kathmandu, 11 July: A division bench of the supreme court Sunday ordered the release of four Tibetans for their illegal detention.
The court ordered the release of Tenzing Pinchok,Tendup Tshering Gurung, Ganto and Lhyachen after they were arrested during anti-China Tree Tibet demonstrations in the capital under the public offence act.
The court ruled the Tibetans were not served arrest warrants,
