DEUBA GIVES UP RACE FOR PM

Kathmandu, 25 Aug. Three-time Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has given up his bid for prime minister to succeed Caretaker Prime Minister Jhalanatah Khanal, his close aide Purna Bahadur Khadka, a former home minister told Radio Nepal.
Deuba gave up his bid as NC consensus candidate late Wednesday afternoon a failed bid to capture the premiership.
He was being challenged by Maoist Second Vice-chairman Dr. Baburam Bhattarai.
Neither Deuba nor Bhattarai could get elected by consensus in parliament as directed by President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav Wednesday.
NC central committee meets Thursday to decide the party’s candidate for prime minister in majority election in the legislature.
Parliamentary party (PP) leader and Vice-Presiedent Ram Chandra Paudel has sought the main opposition NC candidacy on behalf of
The party.
Altogether 298 votes needed for election to succeed Khanal.
Second round of the extended voting process will begin Thursday.
Bhattarai is Maoist candidate for the vote through majority as well

NEPAL STILL SOCCER’S LEADING NATION IN SOUTH ASIA
Kathmandu, 25 Aug.: Nepal is still South Asia’s leading soccer nation in FIFA”s monthly world ranking published in soccer’s world ranking published from its headquarter in Geneva Wednesday.
With eight more points, Nepal collected 193 points and is 136th in world ranking up from 148th position.

Bangladesh follows in South Asia at 139. India has slipped five places to rank 158 in the world and third in South Asia.
Bhutan is at the bottom at 201 in South Asian ranking.

GOLD PRICE SLIPS Rs. 1,500 PER TOLA
Kathmandu, 25 Aug.:: Gold price has decreased by Rs. 1,500 per tola in the local market and traded at Rs. 52,400 on Wednesday, RSS reports.

According to the Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers' Association (NEGOSIDA), the hallmark gold was traded at Rs. 53,900 per tola on Tuesday.

Similarly, the price of worked gold decreased by Rs. 1,500 and was traded at 52,190 today. It was traded at Rs. 53,690 on Tuesday, informed the NEGOSIDA.

The fine silver price was decreased by Rs. 40 and traded at Rs. 1,230 per tola.

The gold price was decreased with the improvement of the share markets in the international markets, said NEGOSIDA.
