DR.BABURAM BHATTARAI MAOIST CANDIDATE FOR PM UPDATE
Kathmandu, 16 Aug.: Second Vice-chairman Dr.Baburam Bhattarai was nominated UCPN (Maoist) candidate for prime minister to succeed Jhanalnath Khanal by a meeting of the party office bearers Tuesday.
He will be candidate for election by parliament through consensus or majority vote, the party said.
Dr. Bhattarai has said personally said he will head a consensus government to complete a peace process and draft a constitution.
President Dr.Ram Baran Yadav has asked parties to nominate a consensus candidate by 21 August.
The president will then ask lawmakers to elect a government chief by majority vote a consensus candidate isn’t elected.
Maoists Tuesday sought UML support for Dr. Bhattarai at a meeting between representatives of the two parties in the present majority communist government.
A faction in UML led by former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal is inclined towards NC.
Prime Minister Khanal said he brought Maoists into government as others were isolating it.
