SEVEN MISSING IN BOAT CAPSIZE COME IN CONTACT

ZHOU YONGKANG CONCLUDES NEPAL VISIT THURSDAY

Kathmandu, 17 Aug.: Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal held official talks Wednesday with visiting Chinese standing committee member Zhou Yongkang—the highlight of Zhou’s three-day Nepal visit.
The visit which concludes Thursday was described as successful by the Chinese side at a news conference Wednesday,
Zhou is the highest ranking Chinese functionary to come calling in eight years,
Khanal briefed Zhou on the present situation in Nepal in official talks at Singha Durbar, Milan Tuladhar, the premier’s foreign advisor said giving details of the meeting.
Any Nepali government will maintain friendly relations with China, Khanal told Zhou, according to Tuladhar.
Zhou ‘s visit aims to contain Indo-American influence in the strategic Himalayan state on the southern lap of Tibet, China’s soft underbelly, following a strategic alliance between Washington and New Delhi.
Khanal reiterated Kathmandu’s One China policy towards the northern neighbour.
Khanal;s government was reduced to caretaker just days before the Chinese delegation arrived.
The visit wasn’t disturbed by Nepal’s internal political developments; agreed decisions were implemented , reiterated and highlighter.
China pledges Rs.3.38 billion in grant, loan and credit Wednesday during the visit.
China gave a Rs 110 million grant in police equipment to enhance capacity of the police forces.,
Export-Import Bank of China extended a Rs 1.7 billion loan to implement a 220 KV transmission line and 132 KV bay extension works project of the Upper Trishuli III ‘A’ hydro power power project.
China agreed to continue economic and technical cooperation.
The Chinese team held discussions with President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav Wednesday.

MAOISTS,MADESH FRONT TALKS FOR FORMATION OF NEW GOVT..
Kathmandu, 17 Aug.: Maoists and leaders of a democratic front of five Madeshbadi parties said Wednesday’s talks for forming a successor government of Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal who resigned this week were positive.
But the front didn’t pledge firm assistance as Maoists will hold direct talks with other parties and individual members of the front.
“The talks were positive. Both parties fought against the old system,” second Maoist Vice-chairman Dr. Baburam Bhattarai who is candidate for prime minister said after the talks.
Both sides have to work together,” Bhattarai said
“A government of two parties will automatically be a government of national unity. There should be a package solution, Both sides should work together. That is possible,” Bhattarai said.

EDUCATION MINISTER CALLS FOR TALKS
AND END TO PROTESTS

Kathmandu, 17Aug,: Education Minister Ganga Lal Tuladhar asked protests against appointment of seven vice-chancellors be called by NC and Maoist sympathetic educationists.
Protestors charged the cabinet unilaterally appointed UML supporters only as all parties sought appointment of their nominees as well.

SEVEN MISSING IN BOAT CAPSIZE ALIVE
who were missing in a boat capsize yesterday [Tuesday] evening came into contact today [Wednesday], RSS reports from Lahan..
According to Superintendent of Police (SP), Bikash Kumar Shrestha, of District Police Office, Siraha, the missing persons were found in Siraha district. Four others were found in Dhanusha earlier, he said.
Local residents, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and Nepal Army personnel have been searching for the others missing around the accident site, said SP Shrestha.

The total number of the boat passengers and the people missing in the accident has not been known yet, he said.
The local people said the boat might have capsized due to flood in the river.
