DECISION TO NOMINATE SHER BAHADUR DEUBA NC CANDIDATE FOR PM ENDORSED BY CENTRAL COMMITTEE

Kathmandu, 17 Aug,: NC central committee Wednesday endorsed a decision of office bearers of the main opposition Tuesday to nominate Sher Bahadur Deuba candidate for election of a consensus prime minister.
The committee didn’t decide whether he will be candidate for prime minister in a majority vote in the legislature if no candidate is elected though consensus by 21 August.
“NC hasn’t even conceived of a majority government. A decision will be taken later,” said central committee member after the meeting.
The meeting was delayed by five hours with Vice-president Ram Chandra Paudel, who is also parliamentary party leader opposing the decision of office bearers.
The PP leader is a prime minister in waiting.
Supporters said Paudel is candidate for prime minister in a majority vote—should it be held in parliament.

NO ARMY SECURITY FOR FORMER KING FROM NOW ONWARDS

Kathmandu, 17 Aug. In a decision that could have far reaching consequences on VVIP security, the Jhalanath Khanal government has decided to downgrade the security of former King Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev, The Reporter reports.
Based on recommendations of a committee headed by the Home Minister, tahearmyuti eaded by a Major of the Nepal army is being replaced by a group of Armed Police Force (APF). The decision to curtail the security comes one year after the government banned his visit to the Kumari temple.
