Kathmandu, 14 Aug: UML Secretary Pradip Geywali said Sunday beleaguered Prime Minister and ruling party Chairman Jhalanath Khanal is resigning later Sunday.
Khanal addressed the crucial central committee meeting of the party leading the government Sunday.
Details of his address weren’t immediately available
The premier is consulting ceremonial President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav later Sunday, Khanal’s political advisor Purusottam Paudel said.
Paudel confirmed the possible resignation could figure in discussions between the president and prime minister without confirming the impending resignation under heavy pressure from UML, Maoists and main opposition NC.
Only some fringe parties supporting the majority communist government have asked Khanal not to resign until a successor national government is in place.
Paudel said Khanal will address parliament Monday giving background to the recent political developments, including possible resignation.
