BAIDYA, PM BHATTARAI MEET

BAIDYA, PM BHATTARAI MEET UPDATE ON MAOIST DIFFERENCES

Kathmandu, 3 Sept.: Maoist First Vice-chairman Mohan Baidya held discussions with Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai Saturday ahead of the postponed meeting of the standing committee Friday.
Baidya, along with General-Secretary Bam Bahadur Thapa, charged Chairman Prachanda for unilaterally deciding to handover keys and containers with Maoist weapons of the insurgency period to a special committee on army integration and resettlement of Maoist fighters headed ex-officio by a premier.
Bhattarai has joined party boss in denying the charge to favour integration.
Baidya conveyed his differences to Bhattarai at Saturday’s meet.
In a joint statement Friday, Baidya opposed the handover with General Secretary Ram Bahadur Thapa, who is also military leader
Bhattarai asked Baidya to end his public protest to strengthen party unity.
Without conclusion of the peace process, handover of weapons to the state will be suicidal, Baidya claims.
