DETAILS OF RELIEF PACKAGE

Kathmandu, 9 Sept.: Finance Minister Barsha Man Pun, representing Maoists in government, made public the relief package contained in a document entitled: Immediate Relief Package 2068.
Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai responded to queries of reporters.
The announcement was delayed by one day amid differences in the cabinet Thursday.
Ministers from the five-party Madeshsbadi raised objections
A panel of four ministers –two Maoists and two from the front—was formed to finalize the package.
The package just reiterates a Maoist pledge to return assets seized during the 10-year insurgency Opposition NC and UML have renewed thier demand for return of such assets following their defeat in the 2008 constituent assembly election to Maoists.
The new government, Pun said, will direct local authorities.
A relief package for victims of the insurgency will also be announced, the new government pledged.
An anti-graft unit will be instituted at Office of the prime Minister to fight corruption. MORE

DEFIANT UML YOUTH LEADER MEETS PM, DEPUTY PREMIER GACHEDHAR WITH TEAM

Kathmandu, 9 Sept.: Defiant UML Youth Association Nepal (YAN) Chief Mahesh Basnet met separately with Prime Minister Dr.Baburam Bhattarai and Deputy Prime Minister Bijaya Kumar Gachedhar Thursday.at their offices in Singha Durbar
Gachedhar is also home minister.
Basnet submitted a memorandum to Bhattarai demanding action attackers of UML activist and lawyer Kamal Raj Pathak this week in Chitwan.
Basnet charged members of his group were targets of assaults and demanded action.
The YAN chief met the two top government leaders even as Basnet said he knew the whereabouts of another UML youth leader Parshuram Basnet wanted for a murderous attack on Biratnagar reporter Khilnath Dhakal.
The YAN chief turned the table on Maoists and Gachedhar’s own party while the UML affiliated organization was accused of shielding criminal elements.
Maoists, he implicitly said, were involved in murder of a journalist Gachedhar himself admitted his party protected a wanted criminal Ganesh Lama.
