MAOISTS BURN EFFIGIES OF DEFENCE MINISTER SHARAT SINGH BHANDARI UPDATE

Kathmandu, 28 Sept.: A faction of UCPN (Maoist) in government with support of five Madeshbadi parties Wednesday burnt effigies of Defence Minister Sharat Singh Bhandari during announced programme of a torchlight procession.
Such anti-Bhandari protests were planned nation-wide.
Maoists are now leading the government with Madeshbadi support.
It was in the previous government as well but the coalition was headed by UML which has joined the opposition bench.
The Bhandari statement has been condemned by major parties besides a section of the UCPN (Maoist).

STUDENT FREED AFTER ABDUCTION IN SAPTARI
Kathmandu, 28 Sept.: A student of the Jagadamba Technical Institute, who had been kidnapped three days ago, has been rescued unharmed by police, RSS reports from Rajbiraj..

Basudev Ram, 20, of Banauli-9 was kidnapped by an unidentified group from the Mahuli river bridge on September 25. The kidnappers had been demanding a ransom of Rs. 500,000.

The kidnappers escaped leaving Ram there after police carried out an action by closing down the transit point on the Nepal-India border, Sub-inspector of police, Yub Narayan Baidya said.

Ram who was freed from the jungle in Bakadhuwa VDC on Tuesday evening has come into contact of the Area Police Office in Kanchanpur, police said.
