DETAILS OF UML CC MEET

Kathmandu, 13 Sept : The eleventh central committee meeting of opposition CPN-UML began Monday with 18 CC members putting forth their views on the current political situation, The Rising Nepal writes.
The CC members aired their opinions on the agenda to be discussed from Tuesday. The party’s Standing Committee meeting on Sunday selected nine agenda but one more agenda has been added to the list after many CC members voiced that the nine-point agenda missed to include the evaluation of the party’s performance following its 8th convention
CC member Bhim Rawal said that today’s meeting decided to add the evaluation of party’s performance to the schedule for the discussion.
In today’s meeting, party chairman Jhala Nath Khanal said that the Maoist-Madhesi coalition government was formed on the weak foundation and the UML needed to form its opinion on the government according to its performance.
He said that the Maoist-Madhesi coalition had sidelined the major two parties and showed its indifference towards the peace process.
However, former PM Khanal stressed on extending constructive support to the government if it honestly concentrated on peace and constitution writing processes.
The CC members, speaking at the meeting, criticized the four point agreement between the Maoists and Madhesi parties, and dubbed the government’s recent relief package programme as publicity-oriented and having partisan contents.
Talking to media persons, party’s publicity department head Pradeep Gyawali said that the four-point agenda had generated doubts whether it would give rise to impunity and

anarchy since it mentioned to give amnesty to the people implicated in various criminal cases during the Maoist insurgency and Madhes movement.
"The agreement includes releasing the political cadres implicated in different criminal cases, opening recruitment of Madhesi in Nepal Army and rejects the need of forming the state restructuring commission. These provisions have far-reaching impacts and should be taken seriously," said Gyawali.
He said that the party would form its outlook on the state restructuring and army integration issue from the meeting.
It will first deliberate on concluding the peace and constitution writing and forming its opinion on the Maoist-led government.
A host of leaders including chair Khanal, general secretary Ishowr Pokharel and KP Sharma Oli expressed their views in the meeting.
The political observers are keenly watching the UML meet as its conclusions will impact the country’s transitional politics. The UML is the third largest party in the parliament and holds key to the decisions on the vital contents in the peace and constitution writing processes.

TRADERS ASKED NOT TO OFFER GIFTS TO POLICE

Kathmandu, 13 Sept : The Metropolitan Police Commissioner’s Office (MPCO), Ranipokhari, Monday appealed to all business entrepreneurs, industrialists and contractors not to provide any donations, souvenirs, and gifts to policemen during Dashain, Tihar and Chhatt festivals, The Rising Nepal reports.
The commissioner’s office, issuing circulars to all its police offices under MPCO, warned of action against police officers and personnel if they were found accepting and demanding donations, gifts and souvenirs from businessmen and industrialists.
"If any police personnel including high level officers forced anyone for providing such amenities, we urge the concerned industrialists, and businessmen to inform the MPCO," Deputy Inspector General Parshuram Khatri said at a news conference.
The MPCO issued circulars to all police units under MPCO as per the direction and separate letters issued from the Police Headquarters, Naxal.
It would be against police administration’s discipline and norms if any of its staff was found indulging in such practices, DIG Khatri said.
"We kindly request to all industrialists, business entrepreneurs and contractors to stop providing donations, gifts, souvenirs to any policemen in the name of Dashain, Tihar and Chhat festivals," DIG Khatri appealed.
Most often during festive times in and outside the valley, local police officers and personnel demanded goats and alcoholic beverages from businessmen.
Similarly, the MPCO has urged the general public to inform police office nearby if any organized gangs, dons, and groups asked for forceful donations and issued any kind of threat. "We are committed to bring all these atrocities under control during this year’s festival," DIG Khatri said.
Police appealed to the concerned to call the police control room at 100, 4229180, and 4248785 for seeking instant police action.
