RENOWNED MONK DEAD
Kathmandu, 24 Sept.: Buddhist monk Buddhaghos Mahasthaveer passed away at Sumangal Bihar in Lankhusi of Lalitpur, on Saturday morning. He was 91, RSS reports.

He was the Dharmanusashak (governor) of All Nepal Bhikshu Federation. He had for the first time established Nepal Buddha Pariyati Education about 47 years ago.

He was born to father Purnananda Bajracharya and mother Surya Maya Bajrachaya on Ashwin Shukla Ekadashi of 1978 BS at Thahity in Kathmandu, and had attained the Prabajya under Bhikshu Pragnananda Mahasthabir.

He had then studied Budhhism and philosophy in Myanmar. His household name was Saptaratna Bajracharya.

The Myanmar government had honoured him with the title of ‘Agga Mahasaddhamma Jotik Dhaja’ in 1999 for his contribution in promotion of Buddhism. His final rites will be performed at Shankhamul on Monday, September 26.
