SUPREME COURT STAYS DEPORTATION TO CHINA OF 23 TIBETANS
Kathmandu, 23 Sept.: A single bench of Justice Bharat Raj Upreaty Thursday stayed the deportation to China of 23 Tibetans arrested from Bajura and Kavre for illegal entry into Nepal from Tibet.
The Tibetans were bound for Dharmashala in India where the self-exiled Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama lives.
A writ has been registered challenging the deportation plan.
An order has been issued to relevant government office to be present at the court Monday for further hearing.
But The Himalayan Times Friday quoted Home ministry spokesman Sudhir Kumar Shah to say the Tibetans have been handed over to UNHCR.
