HOME MINISTRY PLAN TO CURB PROLIFIRATING SMALL ARMS
Kathmandu, 27 Oct.: The Home Ministry has approved the work plan on small arms control, RSS reports..

As per the work plan, the production, transportation and sales and distribution of the small arms will be banned.

The Home Ministry added that all small arms will be brought under the government control and the crimes triggered with small arms curbed.

Joint Spokesperson of the Home Ministry, Ekmani Nepal said the security bodies have been directed to implement the government’s October 14, 2011 decision about the Small Arms Management Work Plan-2068.

MAOIST RECEPTION 31 OCT. TO CELEBRATE DASAIN, THAR, CHATT

Kathmandu, 27 Oct.: The UCPN (Maoist) is to host a tea reception to mark the Vijaya Dashami, Dipawali, Nepal Sambat and Chhath festivals on October 31, RSS reports.

A decision to this end was taken today and accordingly the tea party shall be held at 1:00 pm at Bhrikuti Mandap on coming Monday, said Maoist spokesperson Dinanath Sharma.

Meanwhile, the deusi bhailo program organized by the Unified All Nepal People’s Cultural Federation is to continue until tomorrow.

The Federation is organizing the deusi bhailo marking the Tihar festival in various locations of Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur with songs, poems, gajals and caricature on contemporary issues, according to General Secretary of the Federation, Maila Tamang.

FURTHER DETAILS OF ARRESTS ON ATTACKERS OF MAOIST LAWMAKER

Kathmandu, 27 Oct.: Police investigation has revealed that Constituent Assembly member of the UCPN (Maoist) and leader of the party´s sister organization, Shalik Ram Jamarkattel was attacked by one of the factions of his organization, RSS reports.

The Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police made public former Maoist combatants Ram Pudasaini, Indra Bahadur Shahi, Sudip Karki and Kamal Budhathoki at a press conference Thursday.

Senior Superintendent of Police Kamal Singh Bam, officiating Chief of the Bureau, said Tarayan Nidhi Pant also known as Ramesh Pant had masterminded the attack.

Pant is Chairman of All Nepal Hotel Organization, and former secretary of All Nepal Trade Union.

Although the mastermind of the attack is at large, three involved in the attack were held from Hetauda and one from Chabahil, Kathmandu.

The growing rivalry and factionalism in the union was believed to be the main reason behind the attack, police said.

SAARC ERFORT TO INCREASE PULSE PRODUCTION

Kathmandu, 27 Oct.: South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), Agricultural Centre is to bring special programme to increase the production of pulses in the SAARC region, RSS reports.

The centre has decided to bring the programme as it has been difficult to meet the demand for pulses in this region though the production of pulses was increasing of late.
Participants of the regional meeting organised by Centre has agreed to bring the project and urged the countries concerned to keep the pulses farming in their priority list.

Around 40 agricultural experts from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan and other SAARC countries had participated in the meeting that was concluded on Wednesday.

During the three-day meeting, representatives from the concerned countries had presented papers on the pulses production condition, farmers´ problems on the farming, traditional system of planting pulses and others.

India is the largest producer of pulses in the region. Pakistan and Nepal are the second and the third largest producers of pulses, respectively. Canada, Turkey and other European countries imports the pulses from the SAARC region after the production in their countries could not meet the demand for pulses there.

Addressing the concluding function, Director General of the Centre, Dr. Abul Kalam Ajad stressed on the need for carrying out special programme to increase the production of the pulses.

Dr. Niranjan Prasad Adhikari of the Nepal Agricultural Research Council said researches should be carried out in order to increase the productivity of pulses.
