997 TOURISTS AIRLIFTED FROM EVEREST REGION UPDATE

Kathmandu, 7 Nov.: Altogether 997 tourists were evacuated from Lukla and Phaplu airports from the Mount Everest Monday by 22 aviation companies using aircraft and helicopters.
So many tourists had not been stranded earlier at one time in the popular trekking destination, a local said.
Nearly 3,500 tourists along with their guides and helpers were stranded at the foot of the 8848 meters world’s tallest peak for one week.
The airlift began with a break in the weather Monday morning.
The evacuation will continue Tuesday in the weather continues to hold.

DPM NARAYAN KAZI SHRESTHA LEAVES FOR MALDIVES

Kathmandu, 7 Nov.: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Narayan Kazi Shrestha flew for Maldives to attend a pre-summit meet of the SAARC council of ministers with foreign ministers of eight South Asian states ahead of a regional summit.
Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai leaves for the 17th regional summit Tuesday leading a 11-member delegation.
