UNDP ADMNISTRATOR AND FORMER NEW ZEALAND PM IN NEPAL, DEAILLS OF HER ACTIVITIES
Kathmandu, 23 Nov.: - Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Helen Clark called on Constituent Assembly (CA) Chairman Subash Chandra Nembang on Wednesday, RSS repots.
During the meeting held at the CA Building, New Baneshwor, matters relating to the UNDP’s possible support to the Nepal's ongoing peace process and constitution drafting process were discussed.
Similarly, taking part in an interaction programme with CA members hosted by the Committee on International Relations and Human Rights of the Legislature-Parliament today, UNDP Administrator Clark stressed on the need of drafting a democratic constitution that guarantees human rights and rule of law.
It is not an easy task to draft a durable constitution by addressing the voices of all classes and communities in a multi-caste and multi-lingual country like Nepal, she said.
Praising Nepal for its remarkable progress in education and health sectors as part of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), the UNDP Administrator pledged to continue support to the poverty alleviation programmes in Nepal.
Stating that UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon has expressed happiness over the recent seven-point agreement the Nepali political parties reached on November 1, she said the UN would continue support and its solidarity to conclude the constitution writing and peace process in Nepal.
At the programme, Committee Chairman Padma Lal Bishwokarma shared with the UNDP administrator that a major task of the peace process -army integration- was initiated and the draft of the constitution was being prepared.
Various Legislators including Khim Lal Devkota, Gopal Thakur and put forth their queries to the UNDP administrator regarding various issues relating to the constitution, inclusion, federalism and citizen's right.
