LONDON WELCOMES ‘BREAKTHROUGH ‘AGREEMENT

Kathmandu, 3 Nov.: British Foreign & Commonwealth Office
Spokesman Wednesday in London welcomed Tuesday night’s agreement between ruling party coalitions and two opposition parties to conclude the delayed peace process and constitution drafting.made the following statement in London:

"The UK welcomes today’s news that Nepal’s political leaders have reached an important agreement on the outstanding issues of the 2006 Comprehensive Peace Accord. We congratulate them on this
achievement.

“Progress on the integration and rehabilitation of the former Maoist combatants, and on a democratic and inclusive new constitution, is now within Nepal’s grasp.
“We also welcome the intention to establish the long awaited Truth and Reconciliation Commission and Commission on Disappearances, and urge that these comply with Nepal’s international human rights obligations.

“We encourage the parties to continue demonstrating the statesmanship, courage and flexibility that has allowed this progress as they implement the agreement in the coming days and weeks.
“The UK stands ready to assist the Government of Nepal in consolidating peace, democracy and ensuring a brighter future for all in
Nepal," the statement said.
A Maoist faction led by First Vice-chairman Mohan Baidya
called the agreement’s abrogation and said Tuesday was a black day.
He charged the signatories were agents.
A senior official sad government will appeal for international assistance to implement the agreement by integration and resettling 19,000 plus former Maoist combatants in 28 camps.
Five European countries have mainly funding their upkeep through a fund managed by the peace ministry.
