DPM GACHEDDHAR ACCUSES ARMED, ETHNIC GROUPS FOR OBSTRUCTION
Kathmandu, 13 Nov.: Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar has said the armed and ethnic groups in the southern plains and the eastern hilly region have created obstruction in
maintaining peace, and law and order, RSS reports.
However, he claimed that the recent seven-point agreement among the parties has rendered positive effects on the peace and security in
the country.
At a meeting of the Legislature-Parliament´s State Affairs Committee on Sunday, DPM Gachchhadar said continuous efforts of local administration, and security persons as per the government policy have improved security.
"However, we have numerous problems and challenges as use of small arms in criminal activities," he admitted.
After the government launched special security plan across the country, the number of armed criminal gangs said to be 119 earlier has declined sharply thereby reaching 16 in southern plain and 11 in the eastern hilly districts.
He added that other reasons of fomenting crimes in the country were- untoward activities of the sister organizations of the political parties, growing psychology of violence in society, taking law on hand even in minor incidents, trend of protecting criminals rather than curbing impunity, illegal production and sales of liquor, unsocial and illicit activities in parlour, restaurant and others.
According to DPM Gachchhadar, as many as 46,000 people are estimated to be the users of very serious drugs, which has badly affected Kathmandu, Jhapa, Pokhara, Biratnagar, Dharan, Butwal, and Nepalgunj.
Earlier, the constituent assembly members had inquired the DPM about the malpractices in the promotion of the high-level officials of Nepal Police and Armed Police, and meagre relief to the disaster-hit people.
Similarly, the CA members also showed concerns over the growing impunity, weak security, and the general public living in panic.
The meeting presided over by the committee chairman Ram Nath Dhakal had the lawmakers- Chitra Bahadur KC, Bishnu Poudel, Mohamad Rijwan Ansari, Pampha Bhushal, Jagdish Narsing KC, Sudarshan Baral, Bimala KC, Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat, Sapana Malla and others.

TARVEL AGENCTS DEMAND ARREST OF TRANSPORT ENTREPRENEURS HARASSSING TOURISTS
Kathmandu, 13 Nov.: The Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents (NATTA) has demanded that the government take action by immediately arresting the transport entrepreneurs misbehaving with the tourists in Jomsom, RSS reports.
It said its attention had been drawn towards the news of misbehavior from the Mustang Transport Entrepreneurs Association with German and Japanese tourists going on a trek of the Jomsom area last week.
Although there is no arrangement for a syndicate by the entrepreneurs, they compelled them to ride their vehicles by misbehaving with the tourists by puncturing the tires and forcing the tourists to disembark half way as they were in tourist or private vehicles.
This has made a mockery of Nepal’s tourism industry in disrespect of the tourists who come to Nepal and has tarnished Nepal’s tourism image, said NATTA.
